“Following receipt of the letter from the IPCC yesterday, I have now formally requested a report into this matter. This request has been made to the Chief Constable of West Mercia Police as this was the force which led the investigation into the three officers’ actions.
“As a result of this letter appearing in the public domain the media have interpreted the content of the IPCC letter alleging that senior officers intervened to change the outcome of the investigation. Specifically, that the report had been changed from “case to answer” to “no case to answer”. That is a very serious allegation and I want to understand the exact circumstances of the investigative approval process.
“I would like to reassure the public that the investigation into this matter is already underway and I have asked for a report as a matter of urgency. The full report will be put into the public domain at the earliest opportunity.”
